What you need
- a few things to carry, like a cup, a sock or a book
How to do it
- With another person in the room, hand them one thing and say 'take it to Daddy'.
- Point to Daddy if they need it.
- Daddy says thank you and sends something back to you.
- Keep passing things back and forth between people at home.
Why it matters
Carrying something to a named person is a real errand, and the thank-you at the other end makes it worth doing.
What they're learning
- Fetching and carrying
- Holding onto a thing all the way to the right person.
- Family names
- Knowing who Daddy, Grandma and big sister are.
- Helping
- A small job with a thank-you at the end.
What to look for
Notice them looking for the person you named before setting off.
A tip
Use light things they can carry in one hand, and keep the path between you clear.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: stand very close and point as you say the name
Harder: name both the thing and the person: 'take the cup to Grandma'
