Sticker Shoe Pairs
What you need
- their own shoes with straps or buckles
- one sticker, cut in half
How to do it
- Stick half a sticker on the inner edge of each insole, where both halves can be seen, so the picture joins up side by side.
- Sit together on the floor by the door with the shoes in front of them.
- Let them match the halves, push each foot in, and see what they do.
- Do up the straps or buckles for them, and peel the stickers out when the shoes next come off, or sooner if an edge starts to lift.
Why it matters
The sticker picture tells them which shoe goes on which foot, so the getting on is theirs and only the fastening is yours.
What they're learning
- Dressing
- Pushing a foot into a shoe and pulling at the heel.
- Left and right
- The two halves of the picture show which shoe goes where.
- Doing it themselves
- Their part done first, the fiddly part done with you.
What to look for
Watch for them pushing the shoes together to check the picture before they put them on.
A tip
Press the sticker halves down firmly and peel them out when the shoes next come off, or sooner if an edge starts to lift, so there is nothing loose to end up in a mouth.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: stand the shoes side by side for them, ready to step into
Harder: let them press the straps down after you have threaded them through
