Hats and Scarves Mirror
What you need
- two or three winter hats
- a short scarf or two
- a wall mirror or an unbreakable one
How to do it
- Sit in front of a mirror together with a pile of winter hats and scarves.
- Put a hat on your own head and say "Brrr, it's cold! Hat on!"
- Hold a hat out and let your toddler pull it on, or pop it on their head, then look in the mirror together.
- Pull the hat off with a "ta-da!" and try the next one, or drape a scarf loosely round their shoulders.
Why it matters
Pulling hats on and off is real dressing practice, and seeing themselves in the mirror makes it a game.
What they're learning
- Hats on and off
- Pulling a hat on and off is one of the first dressing jobs they can do.
- Knowing themselves
- Spotting their own face in the mirror under a new hat is a big moment.
- Copying
- Copying you putting a hat on is how they learn the job.
What to look for
Watch for them pulling a hat off on their own and laughing at the mirror.
A tip
Short scarves only, draped loosely round shoulders, and tidy them away when you finish.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: just pull a hat off their head together with a big "ta-da"
Harder: ask them to put a hat on teddy too
