Ghost Bowling
What you need
- six paper cups with ghost faces drawn on
- a soft ball
- a pen or crayon, to draw the ghost faces
How to do it
- Draw a friendly ghost face on each cup and set a few of them in a row on the floor.
- Show them how to roll the ball along the floor at the ghosts.
- Make each ghost say "ooooo" in a silly voice as it falls over.
- Stand the ghosts up again and take turns rolling, counting the fallen ghosts together.
Why it matters
Rolling a ball at a target takes aim and a good push, and a ghost that wobbles over with an "ooooo" makes every turn a laugh.
What they're learning
- Aiming and rolling
- Letting go of the ball at the right moment so it travels straight builds control and timing.
- Taking turns
- Waiting while you roll and then having their go gives them gentle practice at sharing.
- Counting
- Counting the ghosts that fell gives numbers a real, funny job.
What to look for
Watch whether they throw, push or roll, and how they react when a ghost falls. Use a soft ball and clear the floor of toys around the cups.
A tip
Play on a rug or carpet so the cups do not slide, and give the ghosts a little space to fall.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: set one ghost close by so every roll knocks it over
Harder: build a small tower of ghosts, take turns, and count how many have fallen
