Three Bears Line Up
What you need
- three soft toys of different sizes
- three bowls of different sizes
- three spoons
How to do it
- Sit three soft toys in a row and ask 'which one is the biggest?'
- Line them up together: big, middle, little.
- Give each toy a bowl that fits: the big bowl for the big one.
- Tell the Goldilocks story using the toys and bowls.
Why it matters
Lining up three sizes asks them to compare more than two at once, and the story gives the order a reason.
What they're learning
- Ordering by size
- Putting three things in a row from big to little is comparing more than two.
- Size words
- Big, middle and little get said again for every bear, bowl and spoon.
- Storytelling
- The story gives each size a character and a voice.
What to look for
Watch for them fixing the line when a toy is in the wrong place.
A tip
Any three toys will do as long as the sizes are very different.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: use two toys, big and little
Harder: add spoons and cushions so there are three sizes of everything
