Teddy Tea Party Pour
What you need
- two soft toys
- a small, light plastic jug with a little cold water in it
- four plastic cups
- a tray on a wipe-clean mat or the kitchen floor, with a cloth for drips
How to do it
- Sit two soft toys round a tray of four plastic cups, on a wipe-clean mat or the kitchen floor.
- Hand them the jug and say "Teddy's thirsty. Will you pour him a drink?"
- Let them pour a little water into each toy's cup, and see what they do.
- Then let them pour a drink for you both, and sip it together.
Why it matters
With real water, every guest's cup is a real pour with somewhere to stop, and the last two cups are drinks you share.
What they're learning
- Pouring
- Tipping a little into each cup and stopping.
- Caring for others
- Making sure every guest gets a drink.
- Pretend play
- Teddy is thirsty, and they are the one who helps.
What to look for
Notice them going round the guests one by one, a pour for each.
A tip
Cold water only, never a hot drink, even for pretend. Keep the jug light with just a little in it, and wipe drips off the floor straight away so no one slips.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: hold each cup still while they pour
Harder: let them ask each guest "More?" and top up the cups that say yes
