Blue Cup Walk
What you need
- a blue cup to carry
How to do it
- Give them a blue cup to carry and say 'blue cup'.
- Walk slowly around one room together looking for other blue things.
- Hold the cup next to each one you find and say 'blue, the same'.
- Point out a red or yellow thing on the way and name that too.
Why it matters
Holding the cup up against things gives them a way to check 'same' with their own eyes.
What they're learning
- Colour matching
- Holding one blue thing next to another is a side-by-side check of 'same'.
- Walking and carrying
- Keeping hold of the cup while walking and stopping is steady whole-body work.
- Pointing and naming
- Every find is a point, a look and a word shared with you.
What to look for
Watch for them holding the cup up to something on their own.
A tip
Any colour works; pick the one your room has most of so the walk has plenty of finds.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: stop at the first two or three blue things and head back
Harder: swap to a yellow cup and do the walk again
