Guess Who's Talking
What you need
- a sofa or chair to hide behind
How to do it
- You need a second person for this: another grown-up or an older brother or sister. They hide behind the sofa or a chair.
- They say 'hello, who am I?' in their normal voice.
- Your toddler guesses, then the person pops up.
- Swap who hides, and let your toddler hide and say hello too.
Why it matters
Knowing someone by their voice alone shows how well they know the people they live with.
What they're learning
- Listening
- Telling voices apart with no face to look at takes careful ears.
- Knowing their people
- Every person at home has a voice they know.
- Taking turns
- Hider and guesser swap each round.
What to look for
Watch for them saying the name before the person pops up.
A tip
Keep the hiding spot simple and close by so the surprise is fun, not worrying.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: hide with them and both guess the voice together
Harder: use a silly voice or a whisper and see if they can still tell who it is
