Family Jobs Chart
What you need
- a big sheet of paper
- crayons
- tape to stick it up
How to do it
- Talk about the jobs that get done at home: watering the plants, feeding the cat, putting out the spoons, lining up the shoes.
- Make a column for each person in the family, and let your child draw that person's face at the top.
- Choose a job for everyone, and let your child draw a picture or a mark for it under each face, including their own.
- Stick it up somewhere low and look at it together each day: whose job is whose?
Why it matters
A chart with their own job on it, in their own drawing, puts them on the family team, and their marks tell everyone what to do.
What they're learning
- Marks that mean something
- A drawing that stands for watering the plants.
- Who does what
- Everyone in the family has a part.
- Their own job
- Checking the chart and getting on with it.
What to look for
Notice them pointing at their own picture and telling you what their job is.
A tip
Pick a job for them that's real and short, like feeding the cat or putting the shoes in a row.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: draw one job for them and one for you
Harder: add a box for each day of the week and let them tick it when a job's done
