Who's on the Phone?
What you need
- a phone with photos of family members
How to do it
- Choose five or six photos of family members on your phone before you start.
- Sit together and show them one at a time.
- Say each person's name, and something about them: 'that's Grandad, he has a dog'.
- Ask 'who's that?' on the second time through.
Why it matters
A few familiar faces, one by one, keep the people they don't see every day close.
What they're learning
- Family names
- Matching a face to a name, one person at a time.
- Pointing
- Pointing at a face is a way of saying 'I know that one'.
- Listening
- Hearing a little about each person.
What to look for
Watch for them pointing or smiling at a face before you name it.
A tip
Pick the photos first so it doesn't turn into a long scroll, and put the phone away when you're done.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: just two photos, back and forth
Harder: ask them to find a particular person as you swipe
