Whisper Game
What you need
- your lap, or a chair close to theirs
How to do it
- Lean in and whisper a word in their ear, like "teddy".
- Ask them to whisper it back to you.
- Take turns, whispering their name, silly words or a little message.
Why it matters
Whispering means listening hard and controlling how loud they speak, and the quiet makes it a calming game for a busy place.
What they're learning
- Loud and quiet
- Choosing a quiet voice on purpose is a big step in voice control.
- Listening
- Catching a whispered word takes close, careful listening.
- Self-regulation
- Bringing their voice down calms their body down with it.
What to look for
Watch for them cupping a hand round their mouth or lowering their voice before they whisper.
A tip
Whisper the first word very slowly. A dramatic, quiet voice is half the fun.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: whisper their own name and let them say it any way they like
Harder: whisper a two-word message, like "red car", and see if they can pass it on to someone else
