Make Your Bed
What you need
- their duvet and pillow
- their soft toys
How to do it
- Once they're up, ask your child to pull the duvet back to the top of the bed: one corner, then the other.
- Show them how to give it a shake and pat it flat with both hands.
- Plump the pillow and put it back at the top.
- Sit the soft toys in a row on the pillow, counting them as they go.
Why it matters
A made bed is a real job they can finish on their own, and the toys in a row make it look done.
What they're learning
- Big arm work
- Pulling and smoothing a duvet takes both arms and a good stretch.
- Jobs in order
- Duvet, pillow, toys: a few steps one after another.
- Counting
- One number for each toy on the pillow.
What to look for
Notice them going round to the other side of the bed to pull a corner straight.
A tip
A lumpy bed is still a made bed. Leave it as they made it.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: pull the duvet up yourself and let them plump the pillow and do the toys
Harder: add two more jobs in a row: pyjamas under the pillow, then open the curtains
