Laundry Finder
What you need
- a pile of clean laundry
- with a sock and a towel in it
How to do it
- Sit by a pile of clean washing.
- Ask for one thing by name: "can you find a sock?"
- Take it from them and fold it together.
- Ask for the towel next.
Why it matters
Washing is full of words they hear every day, like sock and towel, so finding them in a pile is fetching with real things.
What they're learning
- Everyday words
- Sock, towel, vest: words they already hear.
- Finding in a pile
- Picking one thing out from a heap takes looking.
- Helping
- It's a real job, and they know it.
What to look for
Watch for them holding up what they found to check with you.
A tip
Say the name without pointing or looking at it; that's what makes it about the word. If they're stuck, point to help and try again another time.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: use just a sock and a towel
Harder: ask whose it is too: "find your sock"
