Hide the Music
What you need
- a phone or a speaker playing a song
How to do it
- Ask your child to cover their eyes and count to ten while you hide the phone, playing a song, somewhere in the room.
- Let them find it by listening: louder means closer.
- Turn the volume down a little each round so they have to listen harder.
- Swap: they hide it, and you hunt.
Why it matters
The only clue is the sound, so they stand still, turn their head and follow it, and a quieter song each round makes their ears work harder.
What they're learning
- Following a sound
- Turning their head to work out where it's coming from.
- Louder and quieter
- Louder means warmer, quieter means colder.
- Taking turns to hide
- Choosing a good spot for you to find.
What to look for
Notice them standing still and turning their head to listen.
A tip
Hide it low, under a cushion or behind a chair, never on a high shelf or near the stairs.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: keep it loud and hide it somewhere easy, like under a cushion
Harder: hide it in the next room and leave the door open
