Guess the Voice
What you need
- a phone that can record voices
How to do it
- Record each person in the family saying the same short line on your phone, like "Hello, can you guess who I am?"
- Play the recordings to your child one at a time and let them guess who's talking.
- Record some silly voices too, someone in the family as a robot and someone else as a mouse, and see if they can still tell.
- Let them record their own voice, then play it back and listen together.
Why it matters
Voices they know by heart sound a bit different through a phone, so they have to listen for small things, and hearing their own voice played back is often a surprise.
What they're learning
- Listening for voices
- Low, high, fast, slow.
- Family
- Who's who, and how they sound.
- Their own voice
- Hearing it from the outside.
What to look for
Notice them copying a voice once they've guessed it.
A tip
Ask family who live further away to send a voice note too.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: record just two people, you and one other
Harder: record people saying different words and ask who said which
