Fridge Door Gallery
What you need
- two or three sheets of paper
- chunky crayons
- masking tape
How to do it
- At a low table, let them draw two or three pictures, one to a sheet.
- Tape them up at their height on the fridge door or a low wall: your gallery.
- Stand by the first one like a visitor and say "Tell me about this one."
- Listen, say back a word or two of what they tell you, and move along to the next.
Why it matters
A gallery makes them the guide, with you as the visitor.
What they're learning
- Talking about their making
- Telling a visitor what each picture shows.
- Mark making
- Drawing freely, one picture to a sheet.
- Pride in their work
- Seeing their pictures up where everyone sees them.
What to look for
Watch for them pulling you over to a picture they want to tell you about.
A tip
If they do not want to say anything about a picture, admire it and move on. Leave the gallery up, and new things may come up about it another day.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: hang just one picture and look at it together
Harder: let them give someone else at home a tour of the gallery
