Draw With Me
What you need
- two chunky crayons
- a sheet of paper
How to do it
- Sit side by side with one sheet of paper between you.
- Each take a crayon.
- Draw a simple mark, like a line, while they watch.
- Let them draw next to yours, whatever they make.
Why it matters
Drawing alongside you shows them what a crayon can do, and they'll often try the same mark just from watching.
What they're learning
- Copying
- Watching you draw gives them a mark to try.
- Holding a crayon
- Every go is grip practice.
- Drawing together
- A shared page is more fun.
What to look for
Watch for them looking at your mark and then at their own.
A tip
Let them hold it however it sits in their hand; there's no need to fix their grip at this age. Stay with them, and put the crayons away afterwards.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: just scribble together
Harder: draw a line and let them go over it
