Card Post Box
What you need
- a cardboard box with a slot cut in one side
- old greetings cards, or pictures your toddler has drawn
- a red crayon
How to do it
- Colour the box red together and call it the post box.
- Give your toddler the cards one at a time to post through the slot.
- Open the box, take the cards out and deliver them: one to you, one to teddy, one to someone in the family.
- Say who each card is from and who it is for, then post them all again.
Why it matters
Posting a card through a slot is satisfying hand work, and handing the cards out is their first taste of sending something to someone.
What they're learning
- Posting
- Turning a card to fit the slot takes careful hands.
- Giving
- Delivering a card and seeing someone smile is a first go at giving.
- Who it's for
- Saying who each card is for links names to the people they love.
What to look for
Watch for them turning a card sideways to fit the slot, then pushing it through.
A tip
Old cards from last year, birthday cards or junk mail all work. Keep the scissors out of reach once the slot is cut.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: make the slot extra wide
Harder: draw a picture on a card first, then post it to a real person
