Draw Round Our Hands
What you need
- a big sheet of paper
- chunky crayons
How to do it
- Put your hand flat on the paper and let them draw round it, with your help where it gets tricky.
- Draw round their hand next to yours.
- Add the hands of anyone else at home, and draw round a pet's paw if they'll let you.
- Look at all the hands together: whose is the biggest, whose is the smallest?
Why it matters
Their hand next to yours on the same page shows them how big they are, and drawing round a finger is careful work.
What they're learning
- Drawing round
- Following the edge of a finger with a crayon takes a slow, steady hand.
- Comparing size
- Big hand, little hand and the one in the middle sit side by side.
- The people at home
- A hand for everyone puts the whole family on one page.
What to look for
Watch for them putting their hand back over their own outline to check it fits.
A tip
Tape the paper to the table first so it doesn't slide while they draw.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: you draw round both hands while they colour them in
Harder: ask them to put the hands in order from smallest to biggest, or add faces and names
