The Last Bit
What you need
- their small coat with big buttons
How to do it
- Do the button almost all the way through, so it's peeking out the other side.
- Let them pull it the rest of the way.
- Do the next one a little less far.
- Let them finish each one.
Why it matters
Finishing the last bit means the job always ends with them doing it, so every go feels like a win while their fingers catch up.
What they're learning
- Pulling through
- The last pull is the part their fingers can already manage.
- Two hands, two jobs
- One hand holds, the other pulls.
- Finishing
- They're the one who completes it every time.
What to look for
Watch for them reaching for the next button once the first is done.
A tip
Use big buttons sewn firmly on, and keep loose ones away. Stay with them while they practise.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: push it nearly all the way through first
Harder: leave more of the button for them to pull
