Dolls' Clothes Wash
Physical DevelopmentUnderstanding the WorldPersonal, Social and Emotional DevelopmentCommunication and Language
What you need
- a few dolls' or teddies' clothes, or some old baby socks
- a bowl of warm soapy water and a bowl of clean water
- a drying rack or the back of a chair
How to do it
- Gather the toys' clothes that need a wash and let your child check each one for mucky marks.
- Let them swish each thing in the soapy bowl, rub it between their hands, then rinse it in the clean bowl.
- Show them how to squeeze and twist the water out over the bowl, as hard as they can.
- Hang everything on the rack or the chair back, and dress the toys again once the clothes are dry.
Why it matters
Toys' clothes are small enough to wash every bit themselves. Twisting the water out afterwards takes strong hands.
What they're learning
- Wringing out
- Twisting hard with both hands.
- Washing and rinsing
- Soapy bowl first, clean bowl next.
- Wet and dry
- How clothes change as they dry.
What to look for
Notice them squeezing a little harder to get the last drips out.
A tip
Stay beside them while there's water out, and do it outside or with an old sheet under the bowls.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: wash one thing together and let them do the swishing
Harder: feel each thing as it dries and decide which one takes longest
