Cup Skittles
What you need
- a soft ball
- a few large plastic cups stood upside down
How to do it
- Stand the cups upside down in a row, close to them.
- Kick the ball at them yourself and watch them tumble.
- Stand them back up and let them kick.
- Take a step further back when knocking them over gets easy.
Why it matters
Something to knock down makes a kick worth aiming, and the crash gives them an instant answer on how it went.
What they're learning
- Kicking at a target
- A row of cups is small enough to need aiming, big enough to hit.
- Standing on one leg
- A harder kick means a steadier moment on the other foot.
- Cause and effect
- Kick, crash, set them up again, and they learn what their foot did.
What to look for
Watch for them lining the ball up with a hand before they kick.
A tip
Shoes with a good grip beat socks on a smooth floor. Clear a space first and use a soft, light ball.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: stack the cups into a wide wall
Harder: spread the cups out so only a straight kick hits them
