Beanbag Target Games
What you need
- three or four bean bags or rolled-up socks
- a basket, a hula hoop and a cardboard box as targets
- masking tape for a throwing line
How to do it
- Set the targets out at different distances, with the basket nearest and the box furthest, and tape a throwing line.
- Show an underarm throw: swing back, step forward, let go towards the target.
- Take turns throwing, scoring one point for the basket, two for the hoop and three for the box.
- Finish with catching: stand a few big steps apart and throw a bean bag gently back and forth.
Why it matters
Three targets at three distances need three different throws, so they learn to aim by feel rather than by being told.
What they're learning
- Aiming
- Eyes on the target, then let go.
- Soft or hard
- Near targets need a gentle throw.
- Catching
- Hands ready, eyes on the bag.
What to look for
Notice them throwing more gently at the near target and harder at the far one.
A tip
Soft bean bags or rolled socks only, never anything hard, and throw away from windows and breakables.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: one target, moved closer until most throws land in
Harder: try overarm throws, or throw while standing on one foot
