Whose Big Shoes?
What you need
- the family's shoes from by the door
How to do it
- Bring a pile of shoes from the door, big and small.
- Line them up together from the biggest to the smallest.
- Say whose each pair is and whether it's big or little.
- Let them step into the biggest shoes and shuffle along.
Why it matters
Everyone's shoes in a row is a size line-up they already know by heart.
What they're learning
- Ordering by size
- Lining shoes up from big to small is comparing along a row.
- Size words
- Big and little come with whose shoe it is.
- Balance
- Shuffling in shoes far too big is wobbly, funny whole-body work.
What to look for
Notice them putting their own shoes at the little end without help.
A tip
Check the big shoes have no trailing laces before the shuffling starts.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: just sort into big shoes and little shoes
Harder: ask them to find the shoes that go in the middle
