Where Is Everyone?: illustration of a toddler doing the activity

Where Is Everyone?

from 12 months · 5 min · Sensory

What you need

  • a few family photos, or the people themselves

How to do it

  1. Sing to the tune of 'Frère Jacques', using the name of someone at home: 'Where is Daddy? Where is Daddy? Here he is! Here he is!'
  2. Point at the person, or their photo, on 'here he is'.
  3. Do a verse for each person at home, and for grandparents, cousins and pets.
  4. Finish with a verse for them, pointing at their own tummy.

Why it matters

A song with their family's names in it is a song about them and the people they know best.

What they're learning

Family names
Every verse is someone's name.
Pointing to people
Pointing at the right person on 'here he is'.
Singing together
A tune they know with words that change.

What to look for

Notice them pointing at the right person before you sing the answer.

A tip

Include the pets. Toddlers tend to find the dog's verse the funniest.

Make it easier or harder

Easier: sing one verse, for the person in the room

Harder: pause before 'here he is' and let them point first
