When You Were a Baby
What you need
- a few photos of them as a baby, printed or on your phone
How to do it
- Sit together somewhere comfy and look at a photo of them as a tiny baby.
- Ask 'who's that?' and tell them it's them.
- Talk about what's different now: bigger hands, more hair, the toys they like now.
- Find a photo of you as a baby too, if you have one.
Why it matters
Seeing themselves as a baby is a strange, lovely idea, and it gives them a story about where they came from.
What they're learning
- Their own story
- A baby photo of themselves is the start of a story about who they are.
- Then and now
- Comparing tiny then with bigger now is an early sense of time passing.
- Talking about family
- Who held them, who visited, who took the photo.
What to look for
Notice them asking for the same photo again, or showing it to someone else.
A tip
Keep it to a few photos. A short look they ask to repeat is better than a long scroll.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: just one photo and lots of 'that was you!'
Harder: put three photos in order: baby, a bit bigger, and now
