Wall Kicks
What you need
- a soft ball
How to do it
- Stand them a couple of steps from a wall with the ball at their feet.
- Kick it at the wall yourself and let it roll back.
- Let them kick, then stop it with their foot when it comes back.
- Kick again.
Why it matters
The wall always sends the ball back, so they get kick after kick without anyone having to fetch it.
What they're learning
- Kicking forwards
- A wall in front makes a straight kick the one that comes back.
- Stopping a moving ball
- The ball coming back gives them a moving ball to meet.
- Keeping going
- The wall never tires of the game, so the practice keeps coming.
What to look for
Watch for them getting their foot ready as the ball comes back.
A tip
Shoes with a good grip beat socks on a smooth floor. Clear a space first and use a soft, light ball. Keep away from windows.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: stand closer so the ball comes back to their feet
Harder: let the ball roll back before they kick it again without stopping it
