How Tall Am I?
What you need
- sticky notes
- a soft toy
How to do it
- Stand them with their back to a door frame and put a sticky note at the top of their head.
- Do the same for a soft toy, and then for you.
- Step back and look at the three notes: 'tall, taller, tallest'.
- Let them put notes up for everyone else in the house.
Why it matters
Seeing their own height as a note on the wall next to yours makes big and small about them.
What they're learning
- Comparing heights
- Three notes at three heights make tall and short easy to see.
- Size words
- Tall, taller and tallest get said about people they know.
- Standing still
- Staying put while the note goes on is a small bit of self-control.
What to look for
Watch for them stretching up tall to make their note go higher.
A tip
Write a name and the date on each note if you want to keep them; they peel off when you're done.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: measure just them and you
Harder: measure a few toys and put them in order from shortest to tallest
