Cup Tower Topple
What you need
- plastic stacking cups or cups from the kitchen
How to do it
- Stack 2-3 cups in front of your toddler.
- Show them placing one more cup on top.
- Cheer when it topples and stack again.
- Let them build and knock it down as many times as they want.
Why it matters
Balancing one object carefully on another teaches steady hands and patience with small movements.
What they're learning
- Steady-hand control
- Placing a cup gently enough that the tower doesn't fall builds the controlled release used later for stacking blocks or pouring a drink.
- Cause & effect
- Watching their own placement decide whether the tower stands or falls teaches them their movements have direct consequences.
- Frustration tolerance
- Restacking after a topple without melting down builds the patience they'll need for anything that takes more than one try.
What to look for
Watch for them slowing their hand down as the tower gets taller, rather than placing every cup at the same speed.
A tip
Cheer the topple louder than the stack — it turns 'failure' into the best part, so they stay eager to keep going.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: use just 2 cups for an easier balance
Harder: stack 4-5 cups for a taller, trickier tower
