Bauble Colour Match
What you need
- four or five big plastic baubles in different colours, each with its cap and hook taken off
- a sheet of paper with a circle drawn in each bauble colour
- crayons
How to do it
- Draw a circle for each bauble colour on the paper and lay it on the floor, well away from the tree.
- Hold up a bauble, say its colour, and pop it on the matching circle.
- Hand your toddler a bauble at a time and ask, "Where does red go?"
- When they are all matched, look for your faces in the shiny baubles together.
Why it matters
Matching a bauble to the same colour is careful looking, and shiny baubles are lovely to hold.
What they're learning
- Matching
- Finding the circle that matches is early sorting and maths.
- Colour words
- Red, gold, green and blue said again and again on real things stick.
- Careful hands
- Setting a round bauble down so it stays put takes a gentle hand.
What to look for
Watch for them looking from the bauble to the circles before they choose. Stay close, nothing in mouths.
A tip
Plastic baubles only, with the metal cap and hook taken off so nothing small comes loose. Count them back into the box at the end.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: use just two colours
Harder: hide the baubles round the room for them to find, then match
