Wind The Bobbin Up
What you need
- a bit of floor space to stand in
How to do it
- Stand facing each other in a clear bit of the room.
- Sing "Wind the bobbin up", rolling your fists round each other, big and slow, and see what they do.
- Pull your fists apart and clap three times, then point to the ceiling, the floor, the window and the door.
- Clap again and finish with your hands on your knees.
Why it matters
Every line has its own action, so the song and the movements go along together, a line at a time.
What they're learning
- Copying actions
- Watching your hands and making theirs do the same.
- Reaching high and low
- Arms up to the ceiling and down to the floor.
- Song and action
- Each movement belongs to its own line of the song.
What to look for
Watch for their fists starting to roll as soon as you begin to sing.
A tip
Sing it slowly the first few times so the actions keep up with the words. If bending down to the floor tips them over, sit down and do the whole song sitting.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: keep to the winding and the clapping and do the pointing with them
Harder: point to new things in the room each time and let them pick the next one
