Tub Tower Topple
What you need
- plastic tubs
- tub lids
How to do it
- Stack a few empty plastic tubs into a low tower on the floor in front of your toddler.
- Let them knock it down with a hand, a foot, or a full-body charge.
- Rebuild the tower together, this time letting them place one or two tubs themselves.
- Balance a lid on top like a roof before the final knockdown.
Why it matters
Building a tower and knocking it down is the same reach-and-topple motion behind early stacking, and every tub started life as something that went in the recycling. Rinsed and dry, they get one more job before the bin.
What they're learning
- Balance
- Charging at the tower and stopping just in time asks for whole-body control.
- Cause and effect
- A push here sends every tub tumbling there, a big, obvious result.
- Focus & persistence
- Rebuilding the tower after every fall keeps them coming back to the same task.
What to look for
Watch for them pausing before the charge, sizing up the tower rather than rushing in blind.
A tip
Rinse and dry the tubs first and keep the pile away from anything breakable nearby.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: use just two tubs so the tower is quick to rebuild
Harder: stack tubs by size, smallest on top
