Tiptoe And Stomp
What you need
- a bit of open floor space
How to do it
- Stomp across the room with big loud feet, saying 'stomp, stomp'.
- Turn and tiptoe back as quietly as you can, saying 'shh'.
- Hold their hands and do both together.
- Call 'loud' or 'quiet' and switch feet to match.
Why it matters
Stomping and tiptoeing lets them hear loud and quiet coming from their own feet.
What they're learning
- Loud and quiet
- The same feet make a big noise or almost none, and they choose which.
- Balance
- Tiptoeing slowly is a real balance challenge for little legs.
- Listening and doing
- Switching when you call means listening while moving.
What to look for
Notice them looking down at their feet when they tiptoe, checking for noise.
A tip
Hard floors make the best stomps; save it for when nobody nearby is napping.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: just stomp together, then sit down and whisper
Harder: switch halfway across the room when you call
