Steamy Window Circles
What you need
- a steamed-up window or mirror
How to do it
- After a bath, find a steamed-up window or mirror.
- Draw a big circle with one finger and say 'circle, round and round'.
- Hold their finger and draw one together.
- Wipe it clear with your hand and start a fresh circle.
Why it matters
A finger on cool, misty glass is a big feeling, and a circle is the easiest shape to make.
What they're learning
- Shape words
- Hearing 'circle' while their finger goes around links the word and the movement.
- Finger control
- Drawing with one pointed finger is careful, isolated hand work.
- Cause and effect
- A finger leaves a clear line, and a wipe makes it disappear.
What to look for
Watch for them going back to a circle you drew and tracing over it.
A tip
The glass mists up again while the bathroom is still warm, so you get several fresh goes.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: just let them swipe lines
Harder: draw a circle and a line and see if they copy one
