Cushions Back on the Sofa
What you need
- the cushions from your sofa or a comfy chair
How to do it
- Put the sofa cushions on the floor a few steps away from the sofa.
- Pick one up, hug it, and put it back on the sofa.
- Hand them a cushion and let them carry, drag or push it to the sofa.
- Let them push it up onto the seat while you steady it from the other side, then go back for the next one.
Why it matters
A cushion is big but light, so carrying one is a real effort they can manage, and the sofa looks right again when they've finished.
What they're learning
- Carrying big things
- Both arms around something wide, walking without seeing their feet.
- Pushing up
- Lifting the cushion up and onto the seat.
- Helping
- A job that looks finished when it's done.
What to look for
Notice them peeking around the side of the cushion to see where they're going.
A tip
Keep the walk short and clear, as a cushion hides their feet. Let them push the cushions up rather than climb onto the sofa, and stay within arm's reach in case they try.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: one small cushion and a very short walk
Harder: ask them to put it 'in the corner' or 'next to teddy'
