Colour Hunt Basket
What you need
- a basket or bag for collecting
How to do it
- Give them a basket and say the colour you're hunting for first: 'something red'.
- Walk from room to room and let them find one red thing to put in.
- Call a new colour each time: blue, then yellow, then green.
- Tip the basket out at the end and name every colour you found.
Why it matters
Heading off to find 'something blue' asks them to hold a colour in mind while they search.
What they're learning
- Colour words
- Every find is a colour said out loud, by you or by them.
- Holding an idea in mind
- Remembering 'blue' while walking to the next room is real concentration.
- Carrying and walking
- Moving from room to room with a basket keeps the whole body busy.
What to look for
Notice them scanning a room and heading straight for the right colour.
A tip
Agree a few rooms that are fine to search, and put things back together afterwards so it doesn't become a big job to sort.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: hunt in one room only and stick to two colours
Harder: ask for two things of the same colour before moving on
