Bubble Wrap Path
What you need
- bubble wrap
- tape
How to do it
- Tape a strip of bubble wrap to the floor in a straight line, bubble side up, with every edge taped down.
- Show your toddler stepping along the strip and listening to the pop under their feet.
- Let them walk, stomp or crawl along the path themselves.
- Put the strip away as soon as they're done, picking up any torn bits of plastic as you go.
Why it matters
Feeling and hearing bubbles pop under bare feet gives toddlers a strong, immediate cause and effect to chase with their whole body. The bubble wrap came from this week's parcels and gets one last walk before the recycling.
What they're learning
- Balance
- Stepping deliberately along the strip asks for steady, controlled footing.
- Cause and effect
- Stepping harder makes a louder pop, a clear result they can control.
- Focus & persistence
- Walking the whole path, back and forth, keeps them on one task.
What to look for
Watch for them adjusting their step to land on more bubbles, or fewer, once they notice the choice is theirs.
A tip
Tape every edge down flat so the strip cannot slide or curl underfoot, and pick up any torn bits of plastic straight away.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: use a short strip so the walk is quick and low effort
Harder: add a second strip in a different direction for a longer path, or ask them to walk without popping any bubbles
