Ride-On Delivery
What you need
- a sit-on ride-on toy they push along with their feet
- two or three soft toys
- a low box or a pile of cushions
How to do it
- Sit soft toys on a low box or cushions at seat height, at one end of a clear floor or flat path.
- Sit at the other end and call: "Delivery, please! I need Teddy."
- Let them scoot over, take Teddy without leaning, and tuck him on their lap for the ride back.
- Say thank you, sit Teddy beside you and order the next one.
Why it matters
An order to deliver gives every push of their feet a job, there and back, with a thank you waiting at the end of each trip.
What they're learning
- Pushing along
- Both feet on the floor driving the ride-on, there and back.
- Steering
- Turning the steering to head for the toys and then back to you.
- Listening
- Hearing which toy you asked for and bringing that one.
What to look for
Watch for their feet as they set off with a delivery: both pushing together, or one after the other.
A tip
Pick a room or path with no steps, kerbs or doorsteps at either end, and stay within a few steps. Keep the pile close enough to reach from the seat without leaning.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: put the toys a few steps away, so each trip is short
Harder: order two toys at once, so the load back is bigger
