Pumpkin Face Stickers
What you need
- a small pumpkin
- a sheet of round stickers, any colour
How to do it
- Set the pumpkin on the floor or a low table and sit beside it with your toddler.
- Lift the edge of a sticker a little so it is easy to grab, and hand them the sheet.
- Point to where the eyes go and let them stick two on, then a nose and a smiley mouth.
- Turn the pumpkin round and let them make a second face on the back, any way they like.
Why it matters
Pinching a sticker off the sheet and pressing it onto a round, bumpy pumpkin is fiddly finger work, and a face they made themselves is something to point at all week.
What they're learning
- Pincer grip
- Pulling a sticker free with thumb and first finger is the same grip they will use for crayons and buttons.
- Faces
- Putting the eyes above the mouth is early noticing of how a face fits together.
- Pressing
- Smoothing a sticker down on a curved surface takes a steady, gentle press.
What to look for
Watch for thumb and first finger working together as they pull a sticker free. Stickers are small, so stay close and keep them out of mouths.
A tip
Bend the corner of each sticker up before you start; it turns a frustrating peel into one they can manage.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: peel each sticker off for them and let them press it on
Harder: make a happy face on one side and a surprised face on the other
