In the Mirror
What you need
- a mirror they can stand in front of
- their small coat
How to do it
- Stand them in front of a mirror with their coat on.
- Start the top button out of its hole.
- Let them watch their own hands in the mirror while they pull it free.
- Do the bottom ones without the mirror.
Why it matters
The buttons near their chin are the ones they can't see, and a mirror puts their own hands back in view.
What they're learning
- Seeing the hidden ones
- A mirror shows the buttons under their chin.
- Watching their hands
- Seeing what their fingers are doing helps them steer.
- Top buttons
- The hardest ones, made possible.
What to look for
Watch for them looking at the mirror rather than down at their chest.
A tip
Use big buttons sewn firmly on, and keep loose ones away. Stay with them while they practise.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: do the top button for them and let them do a lower one
Harder: let them start the top button themselves in the mirror
