Bottom Button First
What you need
- their small coat with big buttons
How to do it
- Start at the bottom button, the one they can see best.
- Let them look down at their hands while they work.
- Do the top ones yourself.
- Move up one button when the bottom is easy.
Why it matters
They can see the bottom button while they're doing it, and the ones near their chin they can't see at all.
What they're learning
- Seeing their hands
- The bottom button is the one in view.
- Working up
- Each button up is a bit harder.
- Doing part of it
- Their bit is real, even if you do the rest.
What to look for
Watch for them looking down and lining the button up before pushing.
A tip
Use big buttons sewn firmly on, and keep loose ones away. Stay with them while they practise.
Make it easier or harder
Easier: do all but the bottom button
Harder: let them try the next one up as well
